The new recommendation, announced Oct. 23, also applies to people under 65 who are immunocompromised.

For most people who need a second dose, it should be received six months after the first, the CDC said.

The 2024-25 COVID vaccine is recommended for everyone age 6 months and older. It has been available since late summer, though some medical professionals advised delaying it to optimize effectiveness during the higher-risk winter period.
