SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) held a virtual town hall Monday to share preliminary details from its investigation of a police shooting at BART’s Powell Street station on Sept. 13.
SFPD said the incident unfolded when officers assigned to Healthy Street Operation Center (HSOC) at Jessie and Sixth streets, in the city’s Tenderloin District, spotted a man with a firearm in his car. Police said the suspect, identified as Justin Matthew Alderman, 30, fled the vehicle when approached by officers and took them on a foot chase through a retail store and then into the Powell St. station.
Officials said an encounter ensued with the armed man, which led to an officer shooting the suspect. Officers and paramedics rendered aid to Alderman at the scene, said SFPD. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators said the firearm was collected from the scene as evidence.
SFPD said this incident remains an open and active case. Anyone with information is asked to contact 415-575-4444 or text TIP411, beginning the message with SFPD.
