A homeless man is accused of breaking into a woman’s Santa Monica apartment and exposing himself while touching her.
The incident was reported shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of 7th Street.
The victim told responding officers she was asleep when the suspect entered her apartment.
“She was awakened by the suspect who was touching her leg while his penis was exposed,” the Santa Monica Police Department stated in a news release.
The victim was able to get away and call police, who located the suspect a short distance from her apartment and took him into custody.
Investigators said the suspect, 34-year-old Anthony Townson, entered the apartment through an unlocked patio sliding door.
Townson, who is currently homeless, was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges of residential burglary and indecent exposure during unlawful entry.
Police said his criminal history includes trespassing, loitering on private property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting/obstructing police, battery on a peace officer, and carrying a concealed dirk/dagger.
He currently remains in custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with further information about Townson was asked to call authorities at 310-458-8427.
