(KRON) — Walnut Creek native Amit Elor achieved Olympic glory after winning a gold medal in Paris last month. The 20-year-old wrestler defeated Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan to win gold in the 68-kilogram (150-pound) freestyle category.

Elor will be back in Walnut Creek this weekend to be celebrated by her hometown. The City of Walnut Creek is hosting a celebration of Elor’s victory on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.

The event will take place at Civic Park near the gazebo, city officials said. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or low-backed chairs.

They will get an opportunity to hear from Elor — the youngest wrestler in Team USA history — herself and her journey to the Paris Olympics. She attended College Park High School in Pleasant Hill and currently attends Diablo Valley College.
