Huntington Beach’s football team helped close out the summer, 7-on-7 passing season by making a strong run at its annual Surf City Tournament on Saturday.
Led by sophomore quarterback Brady Edmunds, the Oilers reached the final but fell to Charter Oak 26-12 at Huntington Beach High.
Huntington Beach finished second to Centennial Corona in pool play before defeating Downey 30-26 and Edison 28-14 in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
In their pool-play opener against Centennial Corona, Edmunds dueled against Texas A & M committed quarterback Husan Longstreet. The Oilers led early before the Huskies rallied for a 34-25 victory.

Huntington Beach junior wide receiver Troy Foster made a slick, one-handed catch to cap an impressive game. Centennial Corona wide receiver Tavian McNair, a recent Utah commit, earlier collected a spectacular, one-handed TD reception.
Charter Oak defeated Foothill 15-14 and Crean Lutheran 13-6 in the playoffs to reach the championship.
Last weekend, Charter Oak edged Capistrano Valley 20-19 in the silver division final at the Battle at the Beach tournament at Edison.
