A car engine backfiring near Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana caused a brief panic on Monday, April 22, authorities said.

Around noon, there was a report of shots fired along the 900 block of Main Street, close to the campus, said Santa Ana police Officer Natalie Garcia.

The campus was briefly placed on lockdown while authorities searched the area.
