A man was killed inside a Santa Ana home early Sunday morning after a dispute with a roommate escalated into an assault, authorities said.

Police responded to the 1500 block of South Lowell Street, near the intersection of Edinger Avenue, shortly before 8:30 a.m., where the two had an altercation before the fatal assault, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Natalie Garcia said.

The male victim, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect was taken into custody, Garcia said.

At least one other person was inside the house when the assault occurred, though it is not clear if they called 911, she said.

Police are still searching for a possible weapon but confirmed a firearm was not used.

Details on the circumstances leading up to the dispute were not released. The investigation is ongoing.
