Cypress football coach Rick Feldman said Friday that he will “fight to stay” with the Centurions after receiving a Reduction in Force (RIF) notice this week from the Anaheim Union High School District.
Feldman, The Register’s Orange County coach of the year in 2021, disclosed late last week that he had been alerted by the district that he would receive a RIF notice. The layoff notice, he said, arrived on Monday.
A health teacher with 22 years experience in the district, Feldman said his employment with Anaheim Union could terminate at the end of the school year if the RIF notice is not rescinded.
Feldman said he has not resigned as the Cypress’ football coach and continues to oversee offseason workouts.
“I’m going to fight to stay and be the Cypress football coach,” he said. “I’m not blaming anybody. … I worked hard to build this program.”
In nine seasons, Feldman has guided Cypress to four league titles, two CIF-SS runner-up finishes and four semifinal appearances. His record is 77-37.
Feldman said he has received coaching interest from other schools.
He was voted the Chargers’ O.C. coach of the year in 2022 and guided the North in the Orange County all-star game in 2023.
